The 2100 Mural Project : ONE

THE 2100 MURAL PROJECT : ONE

Promoting local artists’ work while beautifying one of Dallas’ most creative and eclectic communities with a highly visible public mural, resulting in the largest art display in East Dallas.

BACKGROUND – The esoteric history of this part of East Dallas, and 2100 in particular, can not be understated.  Once home to a circus commune, and then a Boy Scout campground, the 2100 property lay as an overgrown eyesore for over 30 years.  Abandoned in 1974, the property was purchased in 2005.

The new owners took on the daunting task of beautifying, adding infrastructure, and building a space that preserved the spirit of the neighborhood and the natural wooded landscape. The result was 2100, an event space in the heart of East Dallas, which hosts art and music events, and functions benefitting national and local charities.

Just as the community has rallied behind supporting these recent improvements, The 2100 Mural Project : ONE is giving back by providing a permanent testament to the art culture that is so vibrant in this area.

The 2100 Mural Project : ONE is bringing a unique urban mural to the community. This will provide an outstanding opportunity for local artists to promote their work on a grand scale!  The canvas for the project is a 6′ tall corrugated metal fence which runs the perimeter of 2100’s property, and is privately owned by them.  The installation’s longevity is controlled solely by 2100.  Located less than a mile from the Arboretum at White Rock Lake, the mural will be publicly visible from Lakeland Drive year-round at no charge.  Because the mural project is on 2100 property, future hosted events will further benefit the mural’s exposure to the public.  Funding for this project will be applied to material and promotional costs related to acquiring talent, concierge services provided by the staff to the artists, and the public reception upon the completion of the project.

The first phase of The 2100 Mural Project consists of painting 460 feet of fence, to be created by local artists in approximately 18 foot sections.

Any additional funding that is raised beyond our goal for this project will be applied toward promotion for the The 2100 Mural Project : TWO,  which will include expanding the mural space to over 1,100 feet.

Television, print and online media coverage is in place, and will be utilized for the event.  A public reception will be held at 2100 upon completion of the project.

The City of Dallas’ Cultural Affairs, and City Plan Commission are in support of The 2100 Mural Project : One and its future expansion.
